The Origin Teak wood from Vietnam

Overview

The scientific name of Teak is Tectona Grandis. It is a type of wood that belongs to the deciduous tree family. Its base is usually grooved and brawny.

It is about 30 m tall and has a diameter of about 60 to 80 cm. Its outer bark is yellow-gray, longitudinally fissured into small, long, narrow scales. The flesh is fibrous.

Young branches come with star-shaped hairs with a rust color. Leaves are ovate inverted and nearly round. The flowers are large, club-shaped, and grow in pairs.

This is a plant that grows quickly. The tree can grow up to 13cm tall and 10cm in diameter after only five years of planting.

After 20 years, the tree might reach a height of 21 meters and a diameter of 23 centimeters. The tree’s growth rate will slow down after this period. A teak tree has an average lifespan of roughly 80 years.

The plant is native to Thailand, Myanmar, and India. Now it has been imported into Vietnam, Laos, Cambodia, and many other countries worldwide.

It has become a fairly common plant species in many provinces in Vietnam. The plant prefers a tropical monsoon climate and has poor cold tolerance.

This tree is an entirely light-loving plant. Even when young, it regenerates buds and seeds well. It is tolerant of wildfires and is less susceptible to pests and diseases.

Flowers bloom around May – June or July – August. Fruit season usually falls in November – December or December – January.
